Frost Advisory #479 – What You See Is All There Is

WYSIATI

Our minds crave simplicity.

What are THOSE stations doing? Let’s do that!

We only know what we know. Nothing beyond that.

“WYSIATI… What you see is all there is.

“The confidence that individuals have in their beliefs depends mostly on the quality of the story they can tell about what they see, even if they see little…

You will often find that knowing little makes it easier to fit what you know into a coherent pattern.”

Daniel Kahneman, “Thinking Fast and Slow

“Ratings cannot tell you why your station is sick or healthy. And they cannot tell you the prescription for getting better or staying on top.”

Jon Coleman

Here’s an idea:

When you make important decisions about your radios station’s future, include someone in the conversation that isn’t biased with WYSIATI. That’s likely someone with experience beyond the four walls of your radio station.

After all, the less people know, the more stubbornly they know it.
